WoW is much too much fun
I'm going to be taking a break from it. I blame WoW for killing my inspiration and for the zero words I have been writing the last couple of weeks. So, the coming week, no play. Nathreee will not be enjoying the wonders of Azeroth until I feel like I'm getting somewhere with my novel. The game will be a reward for my hard work, not a way to escape and forget about it. I finally got some good writing done today, which is promising for the week to come.

In other news, school is hard. The assignments are strikingly challenging and I can't say that I think I'm doing very well. I obviously have some writing talent, but my technique is sloppy, I know next to nothing about the theory behind style and I'm still very bad at taking criticism, even if it's well-founded and true.

On the other hand, I'm not sure if it's such a bad thing if I'm just not cut out to be a literary translator. Once my first book is published, I can get a grant to write another one. And I still have an office job that will pay the bills.

And last but not least: babies. No, I'm not pregnant. Yes, we do want to have children together someday. And that day is getting closer. I need to read some books about pregancy and raising children bilingually. /browses to bol.com

I hate the word addiction. It's not appropriate here. I turned the game off on Friday and I haven't touched it since.

I knew you were going to say that :) - I couldn't find a better word for it.. hence the ' ' =3

Seems like a good choice. MMO's can be tricky that way... I hope your writing inspiration will return to you shortly. :D

Miriam and I are playing Wow again. And enjoying it very much. But yes, sometimes it gets in the way with creativity. Finding the right balance is not always easy.

Can I babysit?
Nathreee[info]nathreee on January 5th, 2009 09:09 am (UTC)
What do you want to babysit? Our not yet existant baby or my books about having babies?

Your WoW character.
Nathreee[info]nathreee on January 5th, 2009 09:20 am (UTC)
which one?

I didn't expect that question. I expected a firm "No", to be honest.

But no, I do not want to babysit your WoW characters.
I want to babysit your babies, when they are born, some time in the future.

books and babies
Hi :)

If you need some suggestions about books concerning pregnancy, etc, just ask. Got some on the shelf right here.

And bringing up a child bilingually; this is what is adviced from practice (know two actual cases):
one parent speeks one language all the time to the child and the other the other language. You also select one language in which to talk to eachother (usually the primary language).
Or get some dvd's :P
My Lief meisje already speaks some English words by watching Dora the Explorer and My little pony (the latter is in English only).

Hope this helps.

Re: books and babies
Thanks. If you want, just bring your favourite book about babies when you come to the Charm Baravond, or at least write down the title and the author for me.

Hope to see you there with a brand new character. And don't die this time ok? :P

On wow: Hard but probably smart decision. Hope your writing prospers.

On school: Having a too easy time at school would be horrible too, it's sort of the problem I'm having now. There is no real new information, no moments of epiphany or significant learning moments. At least not yet. Even if it's hard to make it, you do learn a lot from difficult assignments and even if it's hard to deal with criticism doing so can help you improve significantly.

On offspring: I'd like to hear about what you find.
From what I read/heard it limits the amount of words children know in each language(since they can only absorb so many at once), which they don't catch up on until they reach the end of primary school... But this info is sort of dated, since I looked into it years and years ago, from when I first started looking at educational policy.

You can always use WOW as a reward when you've written well? Or maybe it doesn't work that way for you?
Nathreee[info]nathreee on January 5th, 2009 09:22 am (UTC)
I'll try that later, when I'm proud of the work I've done for my novel. In a week or two.
